Door Only (Slab)

Door slabs require prep/mortising for hinges, drilling for handle/lockset, trimming for reveals, and door sweep, on location, before the door slab will be ready to be installed into the existing frame.

If you're replacing a single door and the existing door frame is in good condition, there's typically no need to replace the frame, just the door slab can be replaced.

For double door slab replacements, which can be done, you will need the same type of prep work noted above, plus some additional components for install to an existing frame. We recommend, for ease and accuracy, to replace the existing double door with a new pre-hung double door unit.

Pre-hanging doors come pre-assembled for ease and accurate installation of your new door unit. 

Your pre-hung door will come pre-assembled with the following items:

Exterior pre-hanging door components include: door slab, door frame (made up of jamb legs, jamb header and threshold/sill), hinges (3 hinges for 6’8” door and 4 hinges for 8’ tall door) Kerf weatherstripping, and door sweep.

What jamb size do I need?

When you're ordering a pre-hung door, one of the key things to double-check is the door jamb size. If you are installing the door in a wall with standard 2x4 studs, common sizes are 4-5/8" or 4-9/16". If your wall has 2x6 framing, you will want to go with a larger jamb, like 6-5/8" or 6-9/16".

If you are replacing an existing door and already have a jamb in place, take a look at the diagram below. It shows what part of the door unit to measure. If your measurement does not match the standard sizes mentioned above, or if you are not sure about it your measurement, it’s a good idea to check with your installer to avoid any issues.

Hardware Color Explanation

Black/Bronze

Black/bronze is a versatile color option that combines the deep, rich tones of black with the warm, earthy hues of a dark bronze. Black/bronze finishes are commonly used in interior and exterior hardware, such as door handles, hinges, and door sills.

Note: The bronze color used is often mistaken for black and will work well with black or bronze handle and lock sets.

How should I have the door prepared for a handle and/or a lock set?

Preparation for Handle and Deadbolt

This is the most commonly recommended method and is considered a universal preparation that should be compatible with most standard handle and deadbolt sets available on the market. The door will be drilled with a standard 2-3/8" backset and a 2-1/8" diameter hole. The handle and deadbolt holes will be spaced 5-1/2" center to center, designed to accommodate all-in-one units.

Handle and Deadbolt with Factory Hardware

Your door will be prepared for a handle and a deadbolt, and you have the option to choose from factory hardware selections that can come pre-prepared and, in many cases, pre-installed.

No Handle Preparation

Your door will not be prepared for any hardware, allowing you the flexibility to have it prepared on-site to match the handle and/or lock set style of your choice.

Handle Only

The door will be drilled with a standard 2-3/8" backset and a 2-1/8" diameter hole specifically for a handle.

Deadbolt Only

The door will be drilled with a standard 2-3/8" backset and a 2-1/8" diameter hole specifically for a deadbolt.

Multipoint

*** IMPORTANT *** Before selecting this option, please be aware that procuring your own handleset for this style of preparation can be challenging due to the variety of multipoint locking systems and brands available. We highly recommend speaking with one of our professionals before choosing this option. If you desire the multipoint locking option, we suggest selecting "Multipoint with Factory Hardware."

This option provides you with a multipoint locking system, including a handleset from the manufacturer that is guaranteed to work seamlessly with your multipoint locking system.
